"IDF Achzarit, somewhere in Israel"
Photo contributed by Mr Joshua Weingarten
A nice view of IDF Achzarit vehicle pumping out smoke screen. The tapered slope front hull can be seen clearly from this particular view. Nobody would have believe this used to be an old classical Russian designed T-55 main battle tank that served in one of the Arab Armed forces!

"IDF Achzarits, somewhere in Israel"
Photo contributed by Mr Joshua Weingarten
This view shows two Achzarits moving tactically towards their positions using smoke screens. As can be seen here, the commander of the lead vehicle still adopts the traditional high profile posture even this date!

"ADF Leopard, somewhere in Australia"
Photo contributed by Mr Ray Mudway
Dramatic view of an Australian Defense Force Leopard caught speeding! This German designed main battle tank is one of the most popular tank among many NATO countries during the 1980s where they felt then was the only tank capable of stopping massive Russian assaults with minor difficulties.

"SAF M728 CEV, SAF Open House"
Cool view of a Singapore's M728 CEV kicking up dust during a public Open House in early 1980s. Even though this is only a support vehicle in SAF combat deployment, this is still the BIGGEST tank that you will see in the inventory!

"SAF M60 Bridgelayer & M728 CEV, SAF Open House"
Another dramatic view of Singapore's Armoured engineer vehicles moving into position for their support role during SAF public demonstration, in early 1980s. Comparing to the small AMX-13 tank destroyers with three crew, both these support vehicles are much more time consuming to maintain due to their sheer sizes! Maybe this is one of the reasons why SAF prefer small size vehicle?

"SAF M113 APCs, SAF Open House"
Rare view of M113 APCs withdrawing from the public eyes at the end of the program. Even though these vehicles were not based at the location shown above, you will hardly see any trace of these vehicle movements on the tiny island of Singapore!

"SAF M728 CEV, SAF Open House"
A M728 CEV vehicle commander reversing his big vehicle safely down a slope after the program. Notice the turret was turned to the rear to prevent accidental damages to the A-frame.

"SAF M60 Bridgelayer, SAF Open House"
Another dust kicking view of a SAF M60 Bridgelayer moving out of public area. Beside their normal support task, US Bridgelayers were often utilised to transport soldiers by loading them on the top section of the bridge in low threat areas during the Vietnam conflict.

"SAF Improved Hawk, SAF Open House"
A rather old photo image of SAF Improved Hawk on display during the 1980s. Currently this is still the most important SAM system defending Singapore from air attacks. This number one defender may be superceded soon with a new system that has equal or better capability than the famous US Patriot missile system?

"SAF Rapier launcher, SAF Open House"
Another old image of SAF on display during the 1980s. This is probably one of the most effective low level SAM system ever developed that are still very popular with many operators around the world.

"British Aerospace JERNAS, Asian Aerospace '96"
A followup development of the successful Rapier system by British Aerospace. This new generation added more punches with 8 missiles on rail and integrated the targeting sensor in one piece.

"SAF FH-88 & V200, SAF Open House"
An interesting view of manned V200 Commando vehicle preparing for public demonstration parking beside local designed FH-88 howitzer gun. The two black boxes on stands beside the gun are just what you have guessed, big speakers for public commentary!

"SAF FH-88, SAF Open House"
The next three photos are connected. A rather simplified three-in-a-row shots of FH-88 fast recovery for redeployment by skeleton crew. The actual setup timing to fire the first round was probably classified even though everyone know that it falls in around few minutes.

"SAF FH-88, SAF Open House"
The second followup of the three images. The crew is rigging up the rope to pull the barrel back for recovery. If you are aware, the electro-hydraulic actuated "legs" are closing up at the same time.

"SAF FH-88, SAF Open House"
The last of the three. The long barrel is clearly seen here as the crew are on the way to get it back. The development of this accurate gun shocked everyone when first introduced. Even though not as famous as the South African G-5, this national development enabled us not to rely on any gun supplier anymore for a very long time.

"SAF canvas based Kayak, SAF Open House"
A detachable Kayak on display. Used normally in commando operations, this is one of the most silent & effective way to infiltrate small group of highly trained personnels. Beside the "boat" is the large US ALICE bag used for SAF LRRP missions.

"SAF 35mm Oerlikon AA gun, SAF Open House"
The simple but powerful 35mm Oerlikon Anti Aircraft gun seen here with other SAF stuff at the back. As far as I know, they are now upgraded with improved optical sight. One of my uncle served with this gun unit before, and I still remembered he told me about their routine night firing, the hills would shaked when the whole battery jumpstarted!

"SAF 155mm Howitzer, SAF Open House"
The old workhorse of the SAF. This image was taken in the 80s. These guns are now fully upgraded to self propelled status with a small engine and additional wheels on the "legs". Similar to the local designed FH-88 & FH-2000, they are now easily deployable without the need of the trucks. Compared to conventional self propelled guns, they are 100% easier to maintain.

"RSAF F-16A Fighting Falcon, SAF Open House"
One of the inital order batch of F-16A on display. This particular aircraft belongs to the 140th squadron which previously fly Hunters. If you observed carefully, the RSAF logo near the tail is still the old version. Also distinctively shown here is the drag chute compartment standard on all RSAF fighter aircrafts.

"SAF Bionix IFVs, 35th National Day Parade"
Two Bionix IFVs spearheaded the mobile convoy into the neighbourhood during Singapore 35th National Day parade. Bionix is a locally designed and produced IFV that is currently on par with the rest of the existing IFVs currently available in the market.

"SAF AMX-13 SM1s, 35th National Day Parade"
The old workhorse for the SAF for many years. Due to the lack of protection and firepower, together with the regional neighbours' upgrading to heavier MBTs, this tank is probably on the verge of being phased out by SAF. Not surprisingly, even our new Bionix IFV alone with 25 mm chain gun is capable of ripping this light destroyer to pieces with standard rounds!

"SAF Convoy, 35th National Day Parade"
Another AMX-13 SM1 followed by a new upgraded M113 ULTRA IFV with 25mm chain gun station. Another deadly combination to improve firepower with battle group. The overhead gun station design resembled those used on IDF Azcharit heavy infantry vehicles except that this version was bigger to mount the heavier gun.

"SAF M113 ULTRA IFV, 35th National Day Parade"
Close up view of the M113 ULTRA IFV. The firepower that come with the proven gun make this M113 a deadly icon for armoured vehicles and a formidable foe for any tank!

"SAF Bionix IFVs, 35th National Day Parade"
Three Bionix IFVs paused to synchronise with the other mobile column before moving into the neighbourhood. Currently a contender for US army IAV (Interim Armoured Vehicle) program that may see a final purchase of over 2000 vehicles for US army! The chance of being selected by US army would really depends on many factors including the short time frame to complete the full order.

"SAF Combat Engineering Tractor Vehicle, 35th National Day Parade"
A dramatic image of the newly procured Combat Engineering Tractor (CET) vehicle pushing ahead. Without doubts, the new integration of this vehicle into the orbat would improved the fighting capabilities of the SAF in times to come.
